Rush Bergman wrote: Good Afternoon. I am looking for a S&W Victory Model carried by my Dad as a USMC Aviator during WWII. The serial number is V 378967. It was delivered to the Navy Supply Department in Norfolk, Va. on 8-13-43, so it is probably USN marked instead of USMC (even though Marine Aviators were in the Corps, they were technically Naval Aviators). Any assistance that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rush Bergman Houston, Texas S&WCA # 1587

SBHAA member asks if anyone has any idea regarding the purpose of the Japanese Medal shown here.
It was received by the owner in the late 1940 from a relative who served in the Pacific Theater.
Attempts to translate the writing on the box and the paper which was enclosed with the medal yielded few results.
Apparently, the ancient Japanese Kanji became obsolete about the time WWII came to an end. What say you?
